Mgr Quality Engineering 3

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Manager of Quality Engineering with responsibility for the Quality & Mission Excellence function and other site team leadership responsibilities at the Apopka, FL site. The Manager of Quality Engineering will focus on the following areas of responsibility: people leadership, process champion, business partnership, and site team leadership. This position will report to the Manager of Quality for the Aircraft Survivability Business Unit and a dotted line responsibility to Apopka, FL Site Director. The position is based in Apopka, FL, but will require occasional travel to and collaboration with other Mission Systems Sector locations.

The successful candidate will possess unwavering ethics and values, strong leadership skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain trusting partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. He or she will have demonstrated the ability to lead and develop people, independently advocate for quality, exercise objective judgement, and drive improvements in the quality of processes and products. He / she will also have the ability to operate independently based on strategic objectives, work in a team environment, and collaborate across functions and across the sector to accomplish team goals. The candidate will work closely with program directors and managers, leaders from other functional disciplines, and peer functional leaders from around the Mission Systems Sector.

Key aspects of each major area of responsibility include:

People Leadership: The Quality Manager will lead a diverse, multifunctional Quality team at the Apopka site. He or she will be responsible for maintaining an inclusive work environment where team members are engaged and have the resources to be successful now and in the future. Significant tasks included within the scope of this responsibility are:

  • Management of team and assignments across programs
  • Fostering an inclusive environment where team members are highly engaged

  • Mentoring and career development, including training
  • Implementing a strategy for talent acquisition and pipeline development

Process Champion: The Quality Manager will be a champion for robust, efficient processes across the product life cycle. He or she will be responsible for defining, monitoring, and improving processes within the Quality team and the overall site in accordance with company guidelines and the Quality Management system. Significant tasks included within the scope of this responsibility are:

  • Objectively monitor process adherence throughout the site and across the product life cycle in accordance with Command Media and the Quality Management System
  • Drive meaningful operational efficiency improvements via Continuous Improvement projects
  • Apply systematic, data-driven approaches to monitor and improve the quality of processes & products

Business Partnership: The Quality Manager will be a trusted partner for the business, including program, functional, and external stakeholders. He or she will leverage requirements expertise to provide objective insight that results in compliant, effective solutions for the business and the warfighter. Significant tasks included within the scope of this responsibility are:

  • Develop trusting partnerships with program, functional, and external stakeholders
  • Align team goals with business objectives
  • Deliver objective insights and solutions to enable high quality business outcomes
  • Provide strong executive presence and communication
  • Maintain constructive relationship with DCMA stakeholders

Site Leadership: The Quality Manager will be a member of the Apopka site leadership team. He or she will represent the Quality& Mission Excellence function, while also playing a broad leadership role in site responsibilities including strategic planning, budget planning, business metrics reviews, and talent pipeline development. Significant tasks included within the scope of this responsibility are:

  • Actively participate as a member of the site executive leadership team
    • Provide support and guidance to local ERG and various site engagement activities
    • Support headcount, expense, and capital planning activities
    • Support cross functional employee development planning
  • Coordinate with other functional leads across the site ensuring consistent communication and support is provided for the various support functions
  • Represent the site to functional leadership around the MS Sector to enable sharing of resources and best practices

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, technical, or related discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience

5+ years of leadership experience in a relevant discipline like quality, program management, engineering, or manufacturing

Demonstrated understanding of the program / product lifecycle including acquisition, development, production, and sustainment

Demonstrated understanding of ISO 9001 / AS9100 Quality Management System

U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in an engineering, technical, or related discipline

Lean/ Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification

Well versed in the principles of Earned Value Management.

Experience with data analysis and visualization

Current, active Secret Clearance, or higher or ability to acquire a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance.
