Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Section Manager for Aircraft Structural Design, reporting to the Vehicle Structures/Materials and Processes Department Manager in the South Bay Aircraft Design Center of Excellence (COE).
The Section Manager will lead a group of 14 engineers responsible for the mechanical design of vehicle primary and secondary structures. This position is a hybrid role, consisting of direct support to programs and people management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to section members, ensuring members have sufficient statement of work, managing employee performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers), coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/destaffing actions are developed and executed relative to their section, and ensuring their employees are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools. The candidate will be the first point of contact for technical issues on programs involving section members and will make decisions regarding required escalation and resources required for resolution. Responsibilities include participation in recruiting and hiring, day-to-day support for the operation of the functional organization and resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues.

In addition to people management responsibilities described above, selected candidate will support the formulation of Statements of Work (SOW), Task Descriptions (TD's), Basis of Estimates (BOE's) and requirements definition. The ideal candidate will provide senior mechanical engineering oversight of all conceptual design, preliminary / layout, and detail design, drawing release, design review presentations, and support to fabrication. Responsibilities include leading a large multi-disciplined team of engineers, including interfacing with customers, technical support and meeting schedule and cost commitments.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
- 5 years of aircraft mechanical design experience
- Do you have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
- Master's Degree in Engineering
- Experience designing aircraft primary and secondary structures
- Experience managing or leading teams of engineers
- Strong communication, leadership and team building skills
- An Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
