Mechanic B-Maintenance

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Perform a variety of routine maintenance functions. Disassemble, assemble, and position parts on machine tools and equipment where instructions are normally provided.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Drill press, do all saw, hydraulic press, steam cleaner, hammers, pliers, screwdriver, wrenches, power drill and grinder, jacks, slings, drills, calipers, scale, level, etc., safety glasses and respirator, manlift.

MATERIAL: Ferrous and non ferrous metals, plastics, pipe, bearings, belts, filters, hose, guards, gasket material, standard hardware, lubricating and cooling liquids, etc. Various manual, semi-automatic, and automatic machine tools such as mills, drills, shapers, lathes, punch presses and repair replacement parts.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: None.

WORKING PROCEDURE: The following are the usual major job duties but this description does not preclude the performance of other duties by the incumbent, nor the question being raised on the proper rate for the assignment:

  1. Receive work assignment from supervision.

  2. Read and understand safety regulations and procedures, drawings, specifications and work authorizations.

  3. Operate pump to empty water and oil from various tanks into sewer system and barrels.

  4. Operate steam cleaner and use brushes and rags to clean and remove grease from new machines, parts, etc.

  5. Check the condition of grinding wheels on portable, bench and pedestal type grinders throughout the plant and dress, true, and replace wheels as necessary. 6. Check the condition of air filters & belts & hoses on compressors, air conditioners, coolers, and machines and replace as necessary.

  6. Operate a drill press or hand drill to drill and ream holes. Cut material to size with saw. Mark hole locations as required.

  7. Assemble and disassemble speed racks, shelves, bins, etc.

  8. Check equipment in operation for unusual noises, leaks, vibration, cracks or wear, tightness of nuts and bolts, proper lubrication, etc., and complete inspection report forms.

  9. Disassemble and assemble machines, equipment and components under the direction of the Maintenance Mechanic Machine Tools/Utility and lift, move, position and bolt together parts. Obtain materials, parts and tools as directed.

  10. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

  11. Make proper time charge entries and record data as required.

  12. Perform other work of equal or lower classification as required.

This is union represented position.

Position located in Sunnyvale, CA.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of machine tools:

a. Machine roll, pitch, yaw axis

b. Hydraulic system

c. Pneumatic system

d. oil, coolant systems

e. Filters, hoses, bearings, hardware, metals

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must pass skills evaluation test and have mechanical aptitude

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical assembly experience
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Experience working with Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems
