TheResilient Network Solutions (RNS) team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as aManufacturing Engineer 2based out of our Spectrum facility in San Diego, CA.

As part of Northrop Grumman's business focus area on Communications, RNS provides world-class communications with a range of capabilities spanning from quick reaction/urgent need programs to complex communication integration efforts. Our BACN program is the leading supplier of airborne networks, providing flexible content delivery solutions for C2, ISR and disaster relief customers worldwide.

As a Manufacturing Engineer 2 you'll be interfacing with Program Design Engineering to provide recommendations for process improvements with our manufacturing environment.This position will alsolead and drive manufacturingprocess improvements and initiatives. You'll also be doing manufacturing process and data analysis.

What You'll get to Do:

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Design arrangement of equipment within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Design sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspect performance of equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigate and initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Perform total productive maintenance, 5S Audit management, tracks yield, scrap, and parts consumption for all fabrication efforts.
  • Create Work Plans, Material Masters, and Bill of Materials within shop floor control system.
  • Work closely with production floor supervisor, quality, and design engineering and supports day to day production activities.
  • Complete understanding of assembly level build hierarchy.
  • Understand and interpret engineering drawings and recommend design changes to ease of product manufacturability.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing techniques across manufacturing environment.
  • Analyze and design the sequence of operations and work flow to create an in plant production facility.
  • Create assembly and test process plans for electronic assemblies.
  • Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems.

You'll Bring TheseQualifications:
  • BS in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related STEM Technical field.
  • Bachelor of Sciencewith 2 years of experience and 1 year industry experience or a Master's degree with 0 years experience and 1 year industry experience.
  • 6 Sigma / Lean professional certification and/or proven experience.
  • Knowledgeable in data structures and database programming.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Project, and Power Point, and MRP software.
  • Hands on manufacturing experience in assembly and fabrication.
  • The ability to obtain a Secret DoD Clearance.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • SAP MRP and MES experience a plus
  • IPC-620 and J-STD-001 Certification
  • CAD or similar layout design software experience.
  • Candidate should also have a general understanding of continuous improvement, Six Sigma and Lean methodologies in a low volume, high mix, engineer to order, manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with creating and setting up production and assembly lines and processes.
  • Experience with shop routing paperwork in a low level kitting and assembly/processing environment.
  • Familiar with Material Review Boards for product/quality deviation.
    Experience leading Kaizen/Continous Improvement Projects
