Northrop Grumman Space Systems, located in Azusa, CA, is seeking a Thermal Engineering Manager 2 responsible for functional management and technical supervision of the Thermal Engineering Department, reporting to the Hardware Engineering Directorate. This is a hybrid role balancing approximately 80% program technical support and 20% functional/people management (~10 highly capable technical professionals).

Technical responsibilities include: oversight of thermal engineering efforts for design, analysis, test, and on-orbit operation of space systems and accountability for schedule, budget, and technical performance. The manager will also conduct and oversee technical reviews, thermal analyses, environmental test execution, proposal efforts, trade studies, and major customer reviews.

Functional responsibilities include: ensuring the people, processes, and tools are in place to meet program cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives. The manager is responsible for staffing decisions, development of role based training, performance appraisals, compensation decisions, employee career development, and corrective/disciplinary actions when required. As first line management for many employees, the department manager will enhance and encourage employee development with career planning/advice and by notifying employees when suitable career advancement positions are available. The ideal candidate should have strong communications skills, the ability to connect with direct reports, and the ability to collaborate across functional organizations.
