Northrop Grumman in Azusa is seeking a qualified Functional Manager for the SystemModeling and Data Products department within Systems Engineering to perform key assignments on Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) and other space programs. SBIRS has several Payloads on orbit and others scheduled to launch over the next several years. The position requires solid payload systems technical knowledge and leadership in EO/IR space payload systems to help establish and execute effective work processes and procedures, and provide functional management for a team of approximately 12 systems engineers. This includes design for new SBIRS payloads and provide solutions for other systems engineering processes (implementation, analysis, test phases, verification/validation and delivery). Technical understanding in payload operations and SBIRS Mission requirements are strongly recommended. The candidate will be required to integrate input from internal department staff and from other departments, and participate in decision making on matters of a larger scope. Management activities include review of business needs, re-tasking of staff, identification of staffing needs, interviewing and hiring staff, performance planning and appraisals, and professional development of staff. The selected candidate must have 85% direct program work preferably in the payload modeling or data products areas. A background in Database Management, Test Script products, and S/W Processes a plus since staff's expertise is in these fields. Additional responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or due to business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
  • 5or more years of engineering experience in the payload design of electro-optical and Infrared (EO/IR) payload systems
  • Experience leading others either in a lead, supervisory or management capacity
  • Current DoD Secret Clearance must be held and maintained. U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI program access is required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a STEM field
  • Knowledge of and experience with the SBIRS Program.
  • Familiarity with commonly used tools in both MS Windows & Unix environments.
  • Active DoDTop Secret clearance or SCI program access
