Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Manager, Structural Engineering 2to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Azusa, CA.

Essential Functions:

This position is for a Section Manager supporting the NGC MCS Hardware Engineering department in Azusa, CA. The Structural Analysis Section Manager is responsible for both functional management and technical supervision of a Structures and Dynamics engineering groupin Azusa, CA.

This is a hybrid role balancing program technical demands and people management (10-16 highly capable technical professionals). Functional responsibilities include: ensuring the people, processes, and tools are in place to meet program cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements. The manager is responsible for staffing decisions, training, employee development, performance evaluation, compensation decisions, employee career development, and corrective or disciplinary actions when required. In the functional role, the section manager reports directly to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

Technical responsibilities include: technical oversight of the structural & dynamic analysis of spaced qualified hardware and systems. Areas of aptitude include: subsystem integration, durability and damage tolerance,quasi-static and dynamic structural modeling, methods of model validation, primary and secondary structure load paths and design margins, vibro-acoustics analysis and test, and space certification. The manager will be accountable to program office and IPT leadership for schedule, budget, and technical performance of structural & dynamics analysis tasks. The manager will also be responsible for oversight of technical reviews, analysis and test reports, special projects, trade studies, sustaining activities, MRB, and major customer reviews.

The section manager also has performance appraisal responsibilities to guide employee development, improve employee well-being, and add value to the organization. As first line management for many employees, the section manager will enhance and encourage employee development with career advice and training as well as notifying employees when suitable career advancement positions are available. The ideal candidate should have strong communications skills and the ability to connect to direct reports and internalcustomerson multiple levels.
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Material Science or Physics from an accredited university.
  • 5years of combined experience in structural analysis, design, and testing, including hand analysis and FEA/FEM.
  • Experience in leading project and/or tiger teams
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance or higher. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in space flight equipment and/or vehiclestructures.
  • A working knowledge of CAD applications (CREO)
  • 10+ years of work experience in the area of spacecraft bus or payload loads, structural dynamics analysis and launch environment
  • Advanced knowledge of detailed space-flight loads, transportation loads, fatigue spectra, flight and ground testing
  • Participation in multiple design and analysis cycles in spacecraft development programs
  • Ability to generate PDR and CDR analysis data package and present to NASA/Air Force customers
  • Prior management/leadership position is highly desired.
  • Candidate must have a strong understanding of load paths, free-body loads, and initial sizing approaches for metals and composites.
  • Ability to master the use of various analysis tools and to teach others how to properly and efficiently use them.
  • Proven track record in developing solutions to difficult problems that are rigorous, innovative, affordable, and consistent with program objectives.
  • Coordinates through clear communication with other disciplines.
  • Able to evaluate engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a product development environment
  • An active DoD Secret clearance with an investigation date within the last 5 years is preferred. Best: current DOD Top Secret security clearance and SCI/SSBI program access.
