Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill the position of Manager of Software Engineering as part of the Engineering, Manufacturing, & Sciences (EM&S) function leading the Software and Digital Technologies Engineering discipline within Eastern Region Engineering.

The Software Manager will focus on two primary areas of responsibility: team leadership and management, and team technical performance. Responsibilities include the oversight and addressing of cost, schedule, and technical quality for development efforts. There is additional functional oversight of approximately 15 software engineers of varied disciplines working multiple programs, IRAD, and new business capture opportunities with strategic importance for large downstream value.

The Software Manager will also be responsible for staffing and workload forecast; support and adherence to standard software processes; lessons learned; and employee engagement, mentoring and career development, including training and identification and training of skills required to execute on programs. The responsibilities include the recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, and contract maintenance for the contractors working in the business area.

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Software Managers will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. She / he will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The selected candidates will work closely with the Directors and Managers of other engineering disciplines, Program Directors and Program Managers.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidate must possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical area. Minimum 7 years experience in the software engineering discipline. The candidate must have experience in software management, or program management or engineering management of a software intensive program; or IPT lead experience or other technical team leadership experience.

Experienced in all aspects of the software engineering process, from requirements analysis through verification testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty.
