Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineering Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Azusa, CA.

The Systems Engineering Manager will be supporting the new Payload Systems Design department within Systems Engineering and will perform key assignments on Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) and other space programs. SBIRS has several Payloads on orbit and others scheduled to launch over the next several years.

Essential Functions:

  • The position requires solid payload systems technical knowledge and leadership in EO/IR space payload systems to help establish and execute effective work processes and procedures, and provide functional management for a team of approximately 12 systems engineers.
  • This includes design for new SBIRS payloads and provide solutions for other systems engineering processes (implementation, analysis, test phases, verification/validation and delivery).
  • Technical understanding in payload operations and SBIRS Mission requirements are strongly recommended.
The candidate will be required to integrate input from internal department staff and from other departments, and participate in decision making on matters of a larger scope. Management activities include review of business needs, re-tasking of staff, identification of staffing needs, interviewing and hiring staff, performance planning and appraisals, and professional development of staff. The selected candidate must have at least 85% direct program work preferably in the payload design areas. Additional responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or due to business needs.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
  • 8 or more years of engineering experience in the payload design of EO/IR payload systems
  • Experience leading or managing a team
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a STEM field
  • Knowledge of and experience with the SBIRS Program
  • Familiarity with commonly used tools in both MS Windows & Unix environments
  • Active TS or SCI Clearance
