Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is looking for a Section Manger Spacecraft Dynamics reporting to the Department Manager of Dynamics & Thermal Systems in the Vehicle Integration Directorate. The Section Manager will lead a group of approximately 15 engineers responsible for structural dynamics design, analysis, and test ranging from junior to senior grade levels located in Redondo Beach, CA. The selected candidate will also provide structural dynamics support to multiple space programs in both unclassified and classified environments.

Approximately 20% of the section manager's time will be spent performing leadership, people management, and supervisory duties such as management of personnel, program design reviews, coordination of job assignments, staffing, recruiting, performance management, and enforcement of common tools and processes used by section members across programs. The remaining balance of the section manager's time will be spent supporting Spacecraft programs, participating in resolution of dynamics problems for space based platforms and missions, executing structural dynamics analysis and testing, and providing solutions to a variety of dynamics related technical problems of varying complexity levels.

Further responsibilities include coordinating with program IPTs to ensure appropriate staffing/destaffing, understanding future skill mix needs, conducting performance appraisals to guide employee development, improving overall team engagement, and coordinating employee training and skill development. The candidate will be the first point of contact for technical issues on programs involving section members and will make decisions regarding required escalation and resources required for resolution. Responsibilities also include day-to-day operation of the organization including employee movement and balancing of resources among programs, and resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5years of structural engineering experience with emphasis in spacecraft dynamics
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standard loads and dynamics analysis software (NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, Matlab, ADAMS, VAOne, etc.)
  • Current/Active SCI/SSBI Clearance
  • Must be a good communicator and work well in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior functional management experience OR engineering team lead experience
  • Master's degree in Engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in spacecraft loads and structural dynamics
  • Experience in the areas of frequency response analysis, transient response analysis, random response analysis, shock response analysis, deployment analysis, on-orbit/jitter analysis, vibroacoustic analysis, modal survey, model correlation, and vibration isolation and attenuation techniques, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, flexible body dynamics, strength analysis, kinematics, mass properties, structural response control, and structural dynamics testing
  • CAD applications knowledge (CATIA / NX)
