Manager 2-Multi-Spectral Emerging Technology
Northrop Grumman, Rolling Meadows, Multi-Spectral Solutions (MSS) Organization is looking for a passionate candidate to lead a high performing multi-disciplined team of Scientists and Engineers in developing the next generation of aircraft survivability systems. The MSS organization is responsible for a collection of technology development projects and programs coordinated primarily through military service branch laboratories and research agencies. These projects include technical development of IRCM systems, optical targeting and surveillance, LADAR systems, threat detection and warning systems, laser and focal plane array technologies. A strong technical background with familiarity in stated technologies is required. Functional managers are responsible for their team's overall technical execution and performance to allocated cost and schedule requirements on assigned programs, while also providing technical contributions on programs as an individual contributor.
The selected candidate will be responsible for a team of approximately fifteen Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) engineers and scientists. The responsibilities associated with managing a team include:
Responsible for team of approximately 15 engineers/scientists
Setting, reviewing, & evaluating employee goals
Providing timely, constructive, sincere performance feedback on a regular basis
Executing performance appraisal activity
Facilitating team meetings and employee communications
Coordinating training & career development for team members
Generate staffing assignments and resolve staffing conflicts
Forecasting and managing work load for each team member
Supporting talent acquisition activity
Working with Human Resources to mediate & resolve personnel issues
The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. They will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Bachelors of Science degree or higher in an engineering / technical discipline
Minimum of 7 years' related experience preferably in an aerospace or defense oriented engineering environment
Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills along with proven success working in an integrated product team environment.
High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
Functional management experience leading teams
Experience with EO/IR, laser, or related defense system
Experience working in a systems engineering, integration, and test environment
Background and understanding in various tools and techniques associated with cost/schedule management
Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty
Active Secret (or higher) security clearance, and ability to obtain SAP level access
