Manager 2; Signal Conversion Design, Hardware Engineering

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill multiple Manager Level 2, Hardware – Signal Conversion Design, Engineering positions in the Engineering, Manufacturing, & Logistics (EM&L) function. This is a dual role encompassing both people leadership and technical performance.

This role will focus on two primary areas of responsibility: team leadership and management, and team technical performance. Responsibilities include support and adherence to standard hardware processes, the oversight of cost, schedule, and technical quality for large system development contracts as well as software performance on large systems integration-type contracts. There is additional functional oversight of varied disciplines working multiple programs, IRAD initiatives, and new business capture opportunities with strategic importance for large downstream value.

This position is also responsible for staffing and workload forecast; employee inclusion, engagement, mentoring and career development; employee training and identification and training of skills required to execute on programs. The responsibilities include the recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, performance management and contract maintenance for the contractors working in the business area.

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success collaborating across multiple campuses and sectors as a part of a geographically dispersed team. This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. He / she will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with the directors and managers of other engineering disciplines, program directors and program managers. The ideal candidate will also be able to champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the business.

Minimal travel is expected.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidate must possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering or Technical Degree. Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the hardware engineering discipline as an integrated product team or technical lead.

Must be experienced in all aspects of the engineering process, from requirements analysis through verification testing, modeling, and production support with knowledge of CMMI, ISO 9001, and AS9100. Candidate must have demonstrative verbal and communication skills with a basic understanding of Signal Conversion Technologies encompassing RF Exciter and Receiver hardware. Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Effective communication and presentation skills. High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.

This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen and with an active Secret clearance; ability to obtain a Top Secret and Special Access clearances will be required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Engineering Leadership, or equivalent
  • 10 years of experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment
  • Demonstrated success leading high performance teams as technical, integrated product team, and/or functional leader
  • Experience in microelectronic packaging
  • Active Secret or higher security clearance
