Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Significantly contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards. Considered expert in field within the organization. Demonstrates the skill and ability to perform complex tasks. Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings. Develop solutions to complex problems to ensure solutions are consistent with organizational objectives. Serves as consultant to management and special external spokesperson for the organization on major matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and objectives and acts as an advisor to senior management and customers. Participates in determining objectives of assignment, plans schedules, and arranges own activities in accomplishing program objectives. Represents the organization within the functional area and interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.

Candidate must possess and be able to maintain a minimum Secret Security Clearance. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, and weekends and support on call status for 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days a year. Must have and maintain a valid U.S. passport, accept customer furnished quarters for a period up to 120 days away from primary work location and comply with mobility requirements such as chemical warfare training and immunizations that may include anthrax and smallpox. Must meet medical requirements for worldwide travel.

Basic Qualifications: 6 Years with Bachelors; 4 Years with Masters. Experience may be used in lieu of education. Active secret clearance required. Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards. Full knowledge of industry practices. Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform fairly complex professional tasks. Demonstrated competency in desktop and publishing applications should include the following:

o Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

o Arbortext Editor

o Adobe Acrobat Suite

  • Other knowledge, skills, and experience include:

o proofing/editing

o researching data

o interpreting engineering documentation, to include wiring diagrams and schematics

o conducting customer reviews and incorporating review comments

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree or related field strongly preferred, experience can be considered in lieu of degree. Experience as a qualified mechanic, technician, or operator in a technical field such as aircraft, ship, missile, or space systems highly desired. Position requires a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, XML/SGML and basic knowledge of graphics Experience with Mil Standards (Air Force, Navy, Army) Arbortext Content Management Systems and S1000D and ability to quickly learn and become proficient in related software used for training development, project tracking, and presentations.
