Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems located in San Diego, CA has an immediate opening for a Software Instrumentation and Data Engineer.

Integration and Test at Northrop Grumman is looking for a Software Instrumentation and Data Engineer to our various instrumentation and data processing tool needs. The engineer would work in a team of test and data acquisition engineers to complete software testing in the labs and support flight test operations and data handling and processing. Most of the work would be based in San Diego but occasional travel offsite could be required. San Diego is the Northrop Grumman Center of Excellence for Unmanned systems so there are also opportunities in the future to support many other unmanned test programs, from mature systems like Global Hawk to newer programs like Firebird.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform software development, including creation of post-processing tools, and related functions to support data acquisition systems.
  • Will gain experience with Instrumentation concepts and technologies:
    • IRIG-106-chapter10. Developing code that creates a correctly constructed chapter 10 file, which passes tests from the IRIG committee.
    • IRIG-106-chapter9. Generating TMATS files.
    • IRIG-106-chapter8 format.
    • IADS Data Display Software
    • Telectronics Hardware/Software
    • Databus Formats: IEEE-1394b, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, serial, ARINC429, IRIG-B analog timecode
  • Windows administration basics (AD, IIS, MS_SQL)
  • C/C++

SITEAS
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university
  • The abilityto obtain and maintaina DoD Secret clearance.
  • 9+ years overall engineering experience or 7 years with a Master's Degree or 4 years with a PHD.
  • Experience writing data processing tools in C/C++

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree
  • Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Written several data processing tools from scratch
  • Experience workingwith instrumentation and in a telemetry environment. Written tools to process 1553, 1394, Ethernet databuses.
  • Flight test engineering (FTE) and flight line operations a plus
  • Understanding of avionics architectures
  • Extensive experience and fluent with XML
  • Extensive experience reading and generating HDF5 format files${descr2}${descr3}
