Hypersonic Systems Engineer 4

Northrop Grumman Missions Systems Sector is offering a challenging and rewarding career as a Hypersonic Systems Engineer in Colorado Springs, CO. This position will be part of a team developing advanced technologies for maturation across the Hypersonic Defense (HD) 'kill chain' (Boost, Glide, Terminal) including early identification of technologies for sensors, communication, Command & Control, Kinetic & non-kinetic effecters supporting advanced components for HD architectures.

Responsibilities include

  • Participation in system/component trade studies and analysis using established methodologies and system simulation tools to contribute to requirements development tasks.
  • Development and presentation of briefings within the team and to senior technical managers within the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and supporting stakeholders.

  • Performing and understanding multiple tasks simultaneously and provide performance status of time phased taskings.
  • Performing as the Responsible Engineer to provide technical oversight and management for the staff requirements engineers tasked with the development and documentation of functional, performance, and interface concepts and requirements in a model-based systems engineering environment.
  • Integrating products of team to develop and deliver requirements and interface specification documents. Demonstrate experience in successfully leading a small team of multi-functional engineers/technicians in developing, benchmarking, and using simulation tools in performance analysis.

    Basic Qualifications:
    • 9 Years with Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM); 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
    • Active Secret Clearance
    • Knowledge of physics of hypersonic flight, to include thermal effects on materials and object signatures in RF and IR bands.
    • Knowledge of aerodynamic effects on missile bodies, multi-band sensors, control systems, and vehicle design implications.
    • Understanding of properties of threats to achieve hypersonic flight and requirements on interceptors and sensors to defeat them.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge/expertise on both sides of the Systems Engineering V to develop effective system-of-system level requirements.
    • Familiar with systems and components of the ballistic missile defense or air defense systems.
    • May use and/or contribute to models in MATLAB and python-based simulation tools.
    • Collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
