Northrop Grumman is looking for a Guidance Navigation & Control Engineer to join our Theoretical Studies and Engineering Research (TSER) Sounding Rocket Program in Princess Anne, Maryland.

Job Duties:

  • Develop various attitude sensors and systems including but not limited to rate sensors, optical sensors, ring laser gryoscopes, strap down Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), roll isolated IMU's, and on-board flight computer with embedded computer programs for attitude determination and control
  • Work with cold-gas Attitude Control Systems (ACS) including but not limited to inertial, magnetic, or solar/celestial pointing systems
  • Work with aerodynamic Boost Guidance Systems (BGS)
  • Support development of new hardware or new applications of existing hardware to meet customer requirements
  • Design and build test equipment and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for these systems
  • Develop procedures for testing and operation of these system
  • Support general electrical engineering activities, hardware integration, test operations, and field operations at various facilities
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of electrical and avionics engineering concepts, procedures and practices
  • Develop, implement, document, integrate, test, and operate avionics, control systems, electrical systems, and ground support equipment for sounding rocket vehicles
  • Develop, implement, de-bug, document, and support software for these flight and ground systems
  • Document the results of complex design, analysis, testing, and flight operations tasks
  • Reduces and analyzes flight data, including real time and definitive attitude determination support
  • Provide management support for the design, development integration and/or operational support of attitude control systems
  • Responsibilities may include mission planning, system design, flight software specification, system integration, test, and launch preparation oversight

Basic Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience OR a PhD; an additional 4 years of direct relevant experience maybe be considered in lieu of a degree requirement
  • A strong and varied technical understanding of attitude sensors, control systems, electrical engineering practices, and mission operations support
  • Experience with interrupt-driven embedded software applications
  • Effective communication, documentation and problem solving skills
  • Prior experience demonstrating computer programming ability
  • A U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong personal leadership ability
  • Knowledge and familiarity with sensor operation and capabilities with the ability to analyze flight data to enhance future system performance
  • Knowledge of MATLAB
