Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a ground hardware engineer to join the hardware team in Alice Springs, Australia toperform maintenance of ground system equipment. The hardware maintenance engineer shall provide hardware maintenance to ensure reliable, redundant paths of data collection and communications to allow for continued processing of the operational mission.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Providing hardware maintenance to ensure reliable, redundant paths of data collection and communications to allow for continued processing of the operational mission
  • Perform system, subsystem, unit and board-level troubleshooting and repair
  • Develop and modify procedures for alignment
  • Explain root cause and fault resolution to a technical and non-technical audience
  • Have experience using oscilloscopes, BER testers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, volt meters and other equipment used for testing digital communication systems
  • Have an understanding of AC & DC electronic theory as well as various communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, GPIB, etc.
  • Have experience with BPSK & QPSK waveforms and methods for testing and troubleshooting systems that use such techniques
  • Know basic communication theory and be familiar with digital and analog modulation/demodulation techniques
  • 24/7 real-time hardware maintenance support for operational and supplementary computer and communication equipment at operational sites
  • Supporting scheduled and unscheduled preventive/corrective actions and emergency maintenance on system devices and infrastructures
  • Providing insight to inter-site telecommunications, networks, Ground Communication Network Modernization (GCNM), and other supporting systems
  • Assisting the operational crews in the recommendation and configuration of hardware to allow for improved or alternate modes of hardware utilization
  • Working closely with logistics personnel for equipment repairs, Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) maintenance, and maintenance data collection

This position requires that the selected candidate be able to satisfy the following physical demands:
  • Ability to work on elevated structures at heights of approximately100 feet
  • Ability to work in narrow and confined spaces
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 45lbs (20kgs)
A two year commitment is required

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM field (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) with 9 years of related experience inRF and Servo knowledge or Certified Technical training/ Military Specialty training
  • 9 years of directly applicable experience inground service, field service, SATCOM, hardware or RF engineeringexperience
  • Must possess and have the ability to retain a current SCI clearance with a SSBI and counter intelligence polygraph

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of satellite dish preventative and corrective maintenance (gears, transmissions, lubing/oil changes) with a demonstrated ability with test equipment including spectrum/network analyzers, RF power meters, signal generators, multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Knowledge in common transition and reception devices to include high power amplifiers, satellite receivers, modulation and demodulation equipment
  • Basic level of knowledge of UNIX/LINIX, networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper) to include routers, routing protocols, switches and hubs
  • Knowledge in test equipment such as firebird Test Sets, Fluke cable tester, optical power meter, Cat5 cable tester and Multimeters
  • Working knowledge of different types of cabling such as Cat5 and fiber optics, EIA 530 and triax
  • Knowledge of the keying and operations of TACLANE family, Secure DTD System (SDS) KG-274.
