Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Product Manager 2

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an immediate need to fill the Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC) In Flight Interceptor Communications System (IFICS) Data Terminal (IDT) Product Manager position. The qualified applicant will be part of Northrop Grumman's Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC) in support of the Missile Defense Agency. The Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) element, composed of the Ground Systems (GS) and Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) components, is a critical part of our nation's layered Ballistic Missile Defense System providing the U.S. with the capability to engage and intercept long range ballistic missiles during midcourse flight. This position will act as the Product Manager for the GMD IDT Product team. The IDT software communicates with the Ground Based Interceptors (GBIs) after launch against incoming ballistic missile threats. The IDT software also monitors status of vital equipment inside the IDT to maintain readiness 24/7.

The successful candidate will be responsible for technical, cost, schedule, EVMS, staffing and professional development of a team of software, systems, test, and hardware engineers. This position manages internal and customer deliverables, supports process development and improvement, and financial/technical briefings to customers. The position also requires collaboration and teambuilding across multiple program IPTs and extensive customer interface as well as managing a major sub-contractor. In addition, the candidate will be expected to support proposals for GMD IDT and related technologies.

This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the software/hardware development effort for a complex ground based communication system, from planning the development tasks and schedule, to defining requirements through conducting formal test.
  • Responsible for the technical and schedule performance of the IDT development.
  • Responsible for directly managing the software/hardware product team employees supporting the product development and delivery.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience or a MS degree in Engineering, CS or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Active Department of Defense Secret clearance.
  • Control Account Management (CAM) and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) experience. Understanding and proven track record using Earned Value tracking and reporting processes.
  • Experience managing Army or MDA programs.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Strong background in customer relationship management.
  • Background in CMMI Level 3 practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize, plan and execute work/tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment to produce high quality results
  • Working knowledge of software/hardware engineering processes from architecture, requirements, design, development, unit test, and integration test, through formal qualification testing

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the GMD program.
  • Familiar with IDT or similar transceiver technology.
  • Experience in an Agile development environment.
  • Experience managing programs with employees in geographically distributed locations and multiple subcontractors.
  • Experience with NG policies and processes.
