Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a highly motivated System Safety Engineer Level 4 to work on the Global Hawk Unmanned Aircraft System, the US Air Force's premier airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance platform.

Essential Functions:

  • Technical responsibilities include the execution of the System Safety Statement of Work and generation and delivery of related CDRL items, including the performance of analyses to identify, track, and mitigate potential safety hazards that may impact the safety of personnel or equipment
  • Perform Hazard Analysis and Assessments, Fault Tree Analysis, review safety assessments and engineering designs for compliance with established safety criteria, flight anomaly investigations, and Crisis Management Teams, as required
  • Generate Risk Assessments to determine the Hazard Risk Index in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and propose mitigations to reduce the Residual Risk to an acceptable level
  • Identify and track Safety requirements, support Change Management activities, including review and disposition of Change Requests, as well as supporting System Safety Groups / Working Groups with the Customer
  • Provide status at major program reviews, as well as at Test and Flight Readiness Reviews
  • Generate Basis of Estimates/Task Assessments, coordinate group activities, report Earned Value, and support budgeting, planning, and scheduling activities
  • The selected candidate should have experience with military aircraft, as well as a working knowledge of aircraft concepts and operations
  • Knowledge of military and civil/international processes and practices, including MIL-STD-882, SAE ARP 4761, and STANAG 4671, is also sought
  • Familiarity with electronic systems and circuits, or mechanical systems, is required
  • Candidate should be a self-starter and have demonstrated Leadership skills and experience in leading teams and executing a program Statement of Work (SOW)
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are essential, as well as people skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with subordinates, peers, management, and Customers
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 9 years of applied Engineering experience in an Aerospace Environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in System Safety
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, able to effectively communicate with management, customers, and engineering
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with civil/international processes and practices, including SAE ARP 4761 and STANAG 4671
  • Knowledge of Airworthiness Certification and MIL-HDBK-516
