Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. The Advanced Signals & Cyber (ASC) Team provides wireless and signal processing solutions from research through mission integration for national security and law enforcement with solutions spanning the space, airborne, terrestrial, and maritime domains. The ASC core Research & Engineering (R&E) disciplines are RF Mission Systems, Wireless Signals and Protocols, High Performance Computing, Software Development, Software Defined Radio, Communications Theory, Hardware Development, and RF Analysis. ASC is seeking a talented FPGA Design Engineer to join our small team of firmware designers, software engineers, and researchers. We have openings within a select group of firmware engineers working projects ranging from wireless systems, satellite communication and control, to advanced detectors in a specialized lab and computing facility located adjacent to the beautiful Monterey Bay at the south end of the San Jose valley.

Job Description:

ASC seeks a talented and motivated firmware designer to join a development team working on cutting edge signal processing challenges in various program designs. Designs tasks usually include firmware code development, integration of legacy code & modules, simulation, and bench testing in hardware.

NGIS seeks an FPGA Design Engineer experienced in FPGA development, digital signal processing, and communication theory to perform the following tasks:

  • Participate on small multi-discipline teams to achieve project goals
  • Perform analysis to support derivation of specification based customer requirements
  • RTL development utilizing hardware description language (VHDL (preferred), Verilog, and/or System Verilog) and debug via simulation tools.
  • Perform synthesis and place and route.
  • Develop verification plans to support development.
  • Support technical reviews and be able to present to internal and external customers.

Basic Qualifications:
2 years and a bachelor's degree or 0 years and a masters

US citizenship required and the willingness to be submitted in for a security clearance

  • Experience in FPGA definition, design, debug, and test.
  • Experience in implementing and testing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) modules and related algorithms.
  • RTL development utilizing hardware description language (VHDL (preferred), Verilog, and/or System Verilog) and debug via simulation tools.
  • Prior experience in support of synthesis and place and route.
  • Prior experience in support of verification plan execution and approaches to support development.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • FPGA design and development utilizing Intel (Altera), Xilinx, or Microsemi devices
  • Experience with System on Chip (SOC) devices and firmware interfaces strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Version Control Systems (Git or SVN)
  • Working knowledge of PCIe or other industry standard interfaces.
  • Simulation and analysis using MATLAB
  • Embedded development using C/C++
