Fire Protection Engineer 2/3

Northrop Grumman Missions Systems sector is seeking an Fire Protection Engineer 2/3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Baltimore, MD.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Assists in developing and implementing fire protection programs and procedures in an attempt to eliminate personnel injury and/or property damage due to fire and explosion.
  • Participates in the implementation of programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety is in accordance with all OSHA, NFPA and Life Safety Code requirements.
  • Maintains good working knowledge of building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance.
  • Surveys specific facilities to determine potential fire hazards and recommends corrective action.
  • Reviews documents required for new construction or modification of existing facilities to determine appropriate fire prevention.
  • Participates in inspecting, testing and maintaining fire protection systems and equipment to ensure that in an emergency they operate and perform to standards.
  • Assists in the investigation of any fire to determine the origin, cause, and what, if any, breakdown in the fire protection plans and procedures may have occurred.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on fire investigations.
  • May participate in fire fighter and first aid/CPR training.

BQs for an Fire Protection Engineer 2 are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related program of study.
  • 2 years of experience.
  • Experience with plans review, design and construction of new and existing facilities, fire alarm, suppression and life safety systems.
  • Experience in special extinguishing, suppression and alarm systems.
  • Excellent communication and collaborations skills with all levels of an organization are a must.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively.
  • Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

BQs for an Fire Protection Engineer 3 are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related program of study.
  • 5 years of experience.
  • Excellent communication and collaborations skills with all levels of an organization are a must.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
  • Possess an Engineer in Training certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in building and fire code enforcement.
  • Computer based skills with AutoCAD or other design software.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer license
