Facilities Construction Mechanic A

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Facilities Construction A Mechanic to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Rolling Meadows, IL.

The maintenance of our facility presents many challenges and provides the opportunity to utilize all of your skills as well as learn new ones. The challenge includes maintaining over three hundred roof top HVAC units, Chillers, Cooling Towers, air compressors, and Boilers. Installing and maintaining electrical controls, sprinkler pipe, compressed air pipe and water pipe fitting, installation of acoustical ceiling grid/tile systems and replacement of light fixtures. While Carpentry is the main focus of this position, you will have the opportunity to use and develop your Plumbing, Sheet metal and Electrical skills. Work assignments are highly varied and require independent judgment and initiative but in a strong team environment.

Specific duties include:

Receiving and evaluating work requests, investigating and troubleshooting operational problems in a timely and organized manner.

Providing daily support of all maintenance related assignments and assigned equipment.

Communicate operational problems to department leadership, order required parts and follow up on assigned work.

Assist other team members as needed.

Follow safety procedures and practices on all assigned work.

Basic Qualifications:

Ability to work 1st shift and possible 2nd shift as required and ability to work overtime and rotate on emergency call list as needed.

General carpentry and electrical experience and demonstrate skills and knowledge of all types of power tools.

5 years experience reading and troubleshooting using electrical schematics and blue prints.

Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office or similar type programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrate general knowledge and skills in any of the following trades carpentry (assemble modular wall systems, hang doors, replace lock sets, install door closures, build decks, lay out 2'X4' acoustical ceiling grid), fire sprinkler systems (cut and thread pipe from ½" to 3", weld schedule 40 pipe, solder copper pipe up to 3"), plumbing(set toilets, sinks, faucets, rod drains), electrical (run conduit ¾" pull 120vac 20 amp circuits, trouble shoot shorts, pull communication cable), air compressors(lay out and set up work benches to have compressed air lines with regulators and filters, change filters, change oil, trouble shoot and maintain system) , and small engine maintenance and repair(gas powered salt spreader, snow blowers, ect.)
