Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Engineer Design - 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The MDP Design Lead position provides leadership and design support to space actuator design initiatives with primary responsibility for establishing design trades, conducting feasibility studies and proposals, formulating models for new/modified designs, evaluating complex aspects of actuator design (electro-mechanics, tribology, precision design/manufacturing, kinematics, modeling and simulation, rapid prototyping), and representing the engineering organization in providing solutions to difficult technical challenges associated with actuator products. Strong leadership is critical to this role as all assemblies have very high leverage to program critical path and Spacecraft Integration and Test schedules as well as high leverage to Customer satisfaction. This role may also require support to technology and business development activities, proposals and design reviews, as required.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team building skills.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor™s degree from accredited institution
- 5 years of professional design experience with space actuator and/or space mechanism products
- An active in-scope DoD Top Secret /SCI clearance with the ability to obtain program access

Preferred Qualifications:
- Active SCI security clearance is preferred.
- Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems, actuators, and mechanisms as well as a working knowledge of complex mechanical subsystems and integration of subsystems hardware into Spacecraft systems is preferred.
- Direct knowledge of NGAS Actuator Products and design heritage or implementation techniques is preferred.
- Experience with industry standard design tools including NX, CATIA V5, Enovia, AIAA S-114-2005 Mechanical Moving Assemblies and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications is advantageous.
