Engineer Systems Architect 6 for Space Applications

Northrop Grumman is seeking candidates with outstanding leadership skills who would be responsible for providing subject matter expertise within the Mission Systems Engineering (MSE) – Space group.  This candidate will be able to address five space systems engineering elements:  (1) Designing and developing system architectures for space applications; (2) Defining key capabilities and performance requirements; (3) Providing physics level and mission level modeling subject matter expertise; (4) Developing thorough definition of system interfaces; and, (5) Guiding system implementation approaches IAW operational concepts. This candidate will also be responsible for close customer cooperation to ensure that requirements meet customer expectations.

This position will report directly to the MSE-Space Department Manager supporting the Northrop Grumman Corporation Mission Systems Sector Space IS&R Division. The MSE-Space group provides full life cycle mission systems engineering to captures and programs. 

For programs and proposals, this position performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. This position is responsible for ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. This position performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

This position requires a multi-disciplined knowledge in areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, integration and test. Applicant will interface with multiple disciplines including customers, internal executive management, program management, hardware, software and system engineering, procurement, suppliers, and manufacturing. In addition, the applicant must be able to lead, and report progress for requirements documentation, technical risk management, key system performance parameters, lessons learned, and cost and schedule performance (EVMS).  

The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The selected candidate will work closely with the Directors and Managers of other engineering disciplines, Program Directors and Program Managers.

Acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs. Plans R & D programs and recommends technological application programs to accomplish long-range objectives. Work accomplished typically supports long-range strategic goals. Work is checked only to the effectiveness of results obtained, typically requiring a long-term perspective.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Typical Minimum Education / Experience: 15 Years with Bachelors in Engineering or closely related discipline or ; 13 Years with Masters in Engineering or closely related discipline ; 7 Years with PhD in Engineering or close related discipline.

Candidates must have relevant leadership experience in the engineering, manufacturing or logistics discipline, and/or relevant leadership experience with development and/or production program execution.

The candidates must have demonstrated leadership skills. 

The candidate must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and possess strong communication and presentation skills. 

High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.

Experience in design, development, implementation, or operation of Spacecraft or Space Payloads.

US Citizenship and Active top-secret clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Active TS/SCI with counterintelligence polygraph.

RF, RADAR, and/or Electro-Optical development and implementation experience for Space Applications.
