Engineer Systems Architect 5

Northrop Grumman Military and Civil Space Systems is looking for an experienced chief engineer/architect for our team at our Azusa, CA location supporting the Space Based Visible Sensor Systems Business Area. This position is for a chief engineer/ architect to support the direction and priority of new concepts and evaluate the applicability of the key technologies with focus on Space Based Visible Sensor Development.

This role is focused on integrating key payload and ground processing technologies into the technical design solution and architectures for current/adjacent business opportunities and be responsible for creating and implementing the overall technology solution strategies and investments necessary to achieve the business goals. Selected candidate will be focused on the transformational activities to develop key technologies, integrate and shape solutions which align with Space Based Visible Sensor mission area, to create a strategy to win and execute future development programs. The selected candidate must have a strong understanding of the integration of technologies, have a systems-of-systems engineering approach to develop derived requirements during early stages of development, have a solid understanding of sensor design and technologies, and mission performance assessment. The candidate will perform technical planning, concept and requirements development, systems engineering leadership, make-or-buy decisions, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, execute work packages, and assessment of effectiveness.

The selected candidate will be able to evolve systems requirements from top level needs, critical thinking skills to make design and technology decisions, understand and manage technical and programmatic risks to provide program guidance, evaluate operations analysis results and establish guidance on systems utility and military relevance. He or she will lead various proposal efforts, write white papers, and provide technical guidance to the development team.

In addition, the candidate will interact with internal and external customers to elicit/clarify requirements, develop documentation, support capability demonstration, coordinate with subcontractors, and support design development with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
  • 15 years of technical engineering experience in product or program development
  • Experience leading or managing teams of individual contributors in complex environments
  • Demonstrated capability of fielding space borne electro-optic sensors
  • Previous experience briefing and interacting with senior customer officials and internal executive management
  • Experience in a rapid development/demonstration programs
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain special program access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Experience with US Government reviews and contracts in support of weapons systems development
  • Active SCI security clearance
