Engineer Software 3/4

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to develop and implement software products and scripts to run on processing electronics for defense applications. Position will be located in Sacramento or San Jose, CA.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product software
  • Interacts with users
  • Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
  • Makes recommendations to improve efficiency or usability of the software
  • Participates in program and customer evaluation of options
  • Conducts and actively participates in peer reviews contributing technical expertise to peers to proactively resolve issues before larger problems emerge
  • Ensures software standards are met
  • Participates in testing against customer data sets, including developing and recommending testing procedures and specific tests to be performed

Qualifications

This requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4.

Basic Qualifications for a level 3:

  • 5 years of work related experience with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar area; 3 years of experience with a Masters degree
  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance with CI Poly
  • Basic knowledge of Software Engineering principles (i.e. requirements, design, implementation, and test)
  • Operating System familiarity (Linux, Windows)
  • Experience developing Java applications
  • Object-oriented design skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communications
  • Shell scripting

  • 9 years of work related experience with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar area; 7 years of experience with a Masters degree

  • Operating System familiarity (Linux, Windows)
  • Experience developing Java applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Signal processing software experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of communication protocols is a plus
