Description

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking an Analog Mixed Signal Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Baltimore, MD with possible duty assignments at our Annapolis, MD campus. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Signal Conversion Technology department, providing world class affordable and innovative electronics solutions for all of our product domains. Our design engineers are responsible for the architecture, design, integration, and production support that are essential to our customer’s missions. Your career in Signal Conversion Technology will involve you in some of the most challenging electrical designs, where you’ll be able to apply your engineering principles, problem solving techniques, and computer modeling skills in an engaging team environment.

This design/test engineer will be responsible for ‘cradle to grave’ design, including requirements development, hardware architecture and design, firmware architecture and design, system integration and test. The engineer will be responsible for the design and integration of test and system hardware & software across multiple programs within the superconducting electronics business area. Other tasks include mixed signal designs that include analog, RF, instrumentation, passive and active filters, medium and high speed digital, FPGAs, microcontrollers, as well as data conversion techniques and circuit modeling/simulation/analysis.  Circuit experience should include microcontrollers/microprocessors, embedded processors, FPGAs, analog (instrumentation, linear amplifiers, LP/HP/BP filters, superheterodyne type receivers, discrete transistor circuits, mixers, sine/cosine generation), power amplifiers, A/D and D/A data conversions, high speed serial and parallel interfaces, differential signal transceivers, PECL, LVPECL, LVDS, custom I/O high speed level shifting, and high speed PCB layout.

Qualifications

This job may be filled at a level 3 or a level 4 based on qualifications below:

Band 3

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree

  • Typical Minimum Education / Experience: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

  • Minimum 5 years of experience designing, developing, and testing circuits described above

  • Experience with software tools, such as MATLAB, Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Expedition, LTspice, ADS and HFSS to perform circuit analysis.  Digital Design tools such as Mentor Graphics QuestaSIM and SDK. 

  • Proficient in C/C++ coding and VHDL and knowing the difference in the design flows for the two different languages to support embedded FPGA designs 

  • Able to use electronic test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, impedance analyzers, network analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes, DMM and bridges etc

  • A US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance per business requirements

Band 4

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree

  • Typical Minimum Education / Experience: 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD

  • Minimum 9 years of experience designing, developing, and testing circuits described above

  • Experience with software tools, such as MATLAB, Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Expedition, LTspice, ADS and HFSS to perform circuit analysis.  Digital Design tools such as Mentor Graphics QuestaSIM and SDK. 

  • Proficient in C/C++ coding and VHDL and knowing the difference in the design flows for the two different languages to support embedded FPGA designs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong preference for software tools experience to include: Cadence, PSPICE, LTCAD, evaluation/IDE Software Rabbit, Keil, Xilinx Vivado, MicroChip/PIC, SVN, and interface tools Putty, HyperTerm, RealTerm. 

  • MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree

  • Position prefers a candidate with a current TS/SCI security clearance
