Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Engineer Mechanical - 5to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
This role is a mechanical design technical lead overseeing a team of junior and senior engineers supporting the design and development of a complex mechanical system.

Candidate will be responsible for reviewing engineering 2-D and 3-D PMI drawings, providing feedback to the designers and submitting drawings into a formal review process whereby released drawings will be fabricated, assembled and tested to support system development and production needs. Candidate will have the opportunity to perform conceptual design and layouts with responsibility for the mechanical integration of various mechanical components onto a vehicle platform while ensuring mechanical, electrical, and overall system requirements are met. Other responsibilities may include weapon carriage system mechanical design and environmental analysis, loading/unloading and ground handling analysis, qualification test planning, support of ground and flight testing, suspension & release equipment integration, documentation, and any responsibilities associated with the role of a Responsible Design Engineer (RDE). Duties may also include subcontract technical management and technical presentations to both design team and program leadership.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem solving skills, able to perform effectively despite concurrent work tasks and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team skills. Travel may be required for this role.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor™s degree from accredited institution

- 14 yearsaerospace mechanical design experience

- Computer Aided Design (CAD) proficiency

- Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5M standards and experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

- Active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain program access

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering

- Prior Weapons Integration experience preferred

- Prior weapons carriage device and/or support equipment design experience preferred

- Military service dealing with weapons preparation and/or weapons loading a plus

- Experience with industry standard design tools including, NX10, Teamcenter, and CPLM

- Knowledge and familiarity of part machining and manufacturing methods as it relates to part design and overall time and material costs
