Performs developmental engineering tasks in support of senior level engineers. Under the direction of a senior level engineer, provides engineering support for environmental testing.

Working with flight projects, NASA test engineers and Facility Engineering to plan, develop and execute MIL-STD-461 or NASA specific electromagnetic compatibility tests using the environmental test facilities in the Building 7/10/15/29 complex on spaceflight hardware. Will lead a team of technicians and/or junior engineers in accomplishing assigned tests. May create complex analysis of collected data, provides test documentation in a test folio and completes test reports.

  • Develops test procedures, when required, cost and schedule estimates, oversees set-up and test execution. Reviews Work Directive expenditures to ensure estimates are not exceeded without reasonable justification. Updates Work Directive scope and cost as necessary. Completes all test preparations and facility readiness tasks to meet project technical and schedule (as negotiated) requirements and Branch Quality System requirements.
  • Resolves technical and programmatic issues with minimal outside intervention. Conducts all tests within test specifications and NASA requirements. Ensures all test data is acquired and all data analysis is performed in accordance with test procedures. Provides recommendations to management regarding process and facility improvements and upgrades.
  • Ensures that work practices comply with applicable safety and occupational health standards, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Is aware of and complies with applicable safety requirements for work, including but not limited to, the Mechanical Systems Safety Manual as posted to the GDMS. Asks knowledgeable persons (lead engineer, supervisor, lab manager, building FOM, etc.) if safety requirements are not understood. Ensures hardware and personnel safety concerns are promptly and effectively addressed.
  • Maintains accountability for data acquisition systems and computing resources.
  • May also perform temporary duties in other areas or other duties associated with area of assignment.
Work Environment
  • Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
  • Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environment.
  • Work in clean rooms.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 4 years related or 2 year direct experience required to the area of assignment with demonstrated communication skills. Must be computer-literate. Familiarity with hand tools & electrical & mechanical principles is required.
  • B.S Degree in electrical engineering required.
  • Must adhere to verbal and written guidelines and procedures.
  • Must be capable of working from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, cranes, suspended platforms or cages, etc.
  • Must be capable of working in small and large confined spaces.
  • Must be capable of setting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use the proper PPE as required by work activities.
  • Must have the ability to distinguish color for 8 color display while monitoring testing data.
  • Must be able to accommodate shift changing, weekend and holiday support on short notice and extended hours as required.
  • Must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing the following training: Electro-static discharge, hazard communication, confined space, Electrical Safety, Cryogenic safety, clean room, personal protective equipment, IT security and other required training or certifications as directed by ETIS management.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of all test facilities and utility infrastructure located in the Building 7/10/15/29 testing complex.
    • Experienced with lab test equipment including receivers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers an antennas.
    • Experience with Crane, Man-Lifts, Boom and Forklifts.
    • General desktop experience for Windows based office suite.
    • Familiarity with LabView for automating EMI testing.
