The Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Department Manager, Systems Engineering 3 based out of Woodland Hills, CA.

What You'll get to Do:

As a Department manager in this "manager of managers" role, the candidate will be responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and management of a Systems Engineering department consisting of approximately 60-80 systems engineers. This position reports to the Manager of Woodland Hills Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT). The department provides systems engineering, integration, and test support to all product areas across Navigation and Pointing Systems (NAPS), Integrated Digital Systems (IDS), and Algorithmic Warfare. This product base includes advanced airborne-, ground-, sea-, and space-based inertial measurement and navigation systems; integrated avionics systems; and sensor and intelligence data analytics.

Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with other engineering and manufacturing departments at the Woodland Hills campus. Additionally the candidates must collaborate with business area leadership, business development, business management, mission assurance, product development, and supply chain management to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.

Department management responsibilities make up 25% of the candidates' work time and include managing a team of Section managers and possibly highly experienced individual contributors. Leadership and execution responsibilities include staff resource planning and scheduling, mentoring, developing and improving staff technical skills, leading complex technical issue resolution, and conducting performance and salary reviews. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for securing work in support of direct-charge program activities for 75% of the time.

The selected manager for this position will be expected to build upon recent progress in the implementation of Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Agile execution framework for safety critical embedded systems.

This position is also responsible for guiding a group of managers and their teams in the development, implementation, and refinement of strong processes with emphasis on quantitative management, continuous improvement, employee engagement, and engineering affordability with high quality work product results.
Minimal travel is expected.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's in Engineering or related discipline with 12+ years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility, 10+ years with a Master's, or 8+ years with a Ph.D.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a systems engineering, integration, and test environment.
• Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, planning, management, and interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with a proven track record of leading a team of multi-disciplinary engineers.
• Demonstrated experience in leading high performing organizations and leading organizational change.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Experience in all aspects of the engineering process, from requirements analysis through verification testing.
• Proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty.
• Solid technical foundation in system engineering.
• Experience with large scale, safety critical, hardware and embedded software systems.
• Knowledge of/experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Agile is highly desired.
• Knowledge of/experience with emerging (e.g., DO-178) development processes highly desired.
• Active DoD Secret Clearance.
• Experience in Navigation Systems, Integrated Avionics, and familiarity with Machine Learning/AI.
