Consulting Engineer Systems Architect

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Consulting Systems Engineer at our Tucson, AZ facility to join the Advanced Programs team to develop complex, next generation, state of the art missile systems. You will be a member of a high performing, systems engineering team interacting with customers, program management, cross-functional teams of engineers and senior technologists.
Lead and contribute to the design and development of system architectures, and define key capabilities and performance requirements. You will coordinate and participate in the synthesis, design and development of system level concepts and define technology maturity constraints and maturation planning. Develop thorough definition of system external interfaces. Develop CONOPS and define system capabilities for tactical missile systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and exploration of customer needs and solutions in vehicle sizing and design space exploration, early vehicle shaping and sizing (OML lofting), internal vehicle configuration layouts and modelling.
  • Architecture development of mechanical systems, subsystems, and mechanism.
  • Perform systems analysis, performance evaluations and ensure requirements are met.
  • Provide technical project management and leadership for small teams of cross functional engineers developing advanced systems designs and concepts.
While this position is located in Tucson, AZ, the selected candidate will be required to travel to our Northridge, CA facility up to 50% of the time.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Current/Active Secret clearance.
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • 20+ years' experience in systems and hi-tech product development.
  • SME in mechanical systems design and development for air vehicles.
  • Well-versed, skilled and disciplined in system engineering processes.
  • Background in aerospace systems; basic understanding of aircraft systems, missile systems, warheads, survivability, and their design drivers
  • Must be able to obtain Special Program Access within a timeframe set forth by management.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time, with most travel being from Tucson, AZ to Northridge, CA.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Low Observable technologies
  • Periodic review (clearance/renewal) within the last five (5) years.
  • Familiar with multi-disciplinary optimization methods, analysis, and tools sets.
