Carpenter

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Carpenter to join its Facilities Maintenance team. This position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plan, install, repair, modify, rough in and finish carpentry work associated with the maintenance of buildings, grounds, facilities and the equipment.

  1. Obtain work order, tools and materials and such information as one or more of the following: drawings, sketches, prints and/or oral written instructions which may be of a general or incomplete nature.

  2. Plan rough and finish work determining type and sizes of material required and necessary tools. Layout work and determine necessary operations; measure and make cutting lines to proper dimensions; move tools and material to work locations. Work without direct supervision.

  3. Cut, fit and braces to install, modify and repair wood or metal structures such as scaffold counters, benches, cabinets, cases, racks, floors, doors, wood trim, stairs, studding, casings, partitions, etc.

  4. Make wooden production fixtures and mockups, excluding scale models but including such things as buildings, cabinets and/or large wooden structures from rough sketches, samples or oral instructions; move to locations as necessary. Make and repair shop and office furniture.

  5. Perform preventive maintenance functions as assigned on shop woodworking equipment, such as inspect machinery, blades, check adjustments, alignments operation and accuracy of equipment, sharpen blades, saws, and the like as necessary to maintain equipment in good operating condition. Report problems on equipment to supervisor.

  6. Install, repair and replace ceiling and floor tiles and sections of carpeting as required.

  7. Set stops and table heights to scale readings on wood cutting machines to perform such operations as cutting, routing, planning, shaping, turning and jointing for rough and finish work.

  8. Repair desk, door and cabinet locks and make keys as necessary.

  9. Work from scaffolds and ladders and move equipment as necessary to perform assigned job.

  10. Remove excess materials to designed locations; maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

This is an IBEW Union represented position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience in rough and finish carpentry.
  • Must be an experienced cabinet maker.
  • Experience with both residential and commercial carpentry.
  • Experience laying tile flooring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years carpentry experience.
