Job Summary & Responsibilities
Provide cabling/harness support to include assembly/fabrication and integration on flight and non-flight hardware. Must have or be able to obtain IPC-J-STD-001 and/or NASA 8739 certification.
Perform cable harness fabrication, assembly, and integration. Assemble cables on mock-up fixtures and on the spacecraft. Must be able to interpret mechanical drawings and wire diagrams. Must be able to work on and around ESD sensitive hardware. Must be able to hand solder per J-STD and/or NASA-STD 8739.4. Support spacecraft integration operations spacecraft moves, securing test cables, relocate cables, support test mates/demates when needed. Perform cabling wiring for qualification model, engineering model, and flight systems. Support the cognizant engineer in assessing and recommending design modifications. Support various customer labs during final integration. Technician must be able to work with limited or tight spacing, may include working under or over flight hardware. Technician should be available to support 2nd shift, if required.
Capabilities and experience should include strong background in cable fabrication and with a major focus on handling delicate ESD flight hardware. The task will take place in a clean room environment so all clean room protocols shall be adhered to. Task requires use of all cabling tools such as soldering irons, crimping, torqueing and potting. Most of the activities will be performed in a team environment taking instruction from leads. Fabrication of cables either on mockup and flight assembly. Layup wires on mockup fixtures to fabricate harness assemblies. Delivery of completed cables consisting of variety of different connector types (e.g. circular, D-Sub, or Micro-D). Integration and test of cables on flight assemblies. The flight assembly or sub-system includes installation of baked-out flight cables, flight termination of thermal components (e.g. heaters, temp sensors, switches), and connectorization of mechanical assemblies (e.g. actuators, mechanisms, drivers). Support investigation, rework, and repair activities. Support of flight mates and demates. Delivery of flight sub-system to ATLO operations for integration.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience
