Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Division designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.
The Innovation Systems Space Components Group is seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer to assist an experienced team of mechanical engineers to perform mechanical, systems, and design engineering on one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems.
This position can be located in San Diego, CA or Magna, UT.
Responsibilities may include the following:
Support existing and upcoming programs and will participate in the resolution of complex mechanical design problems for space based platforms and missions involving composite structures.
Perform mechanical design of structures and deployables.
Perform requirements definition, conceptual design, preliminary / layout, and detail design, drawing release, design review presentations, and support to fabrication.
Perform work packages including interfacing with customer, technical support, and directing and mentoring junior engineers.
Work closely with stress, manufacturing, materials and processes, and test to develop design requirements.
Define structural load paths, develop CAD models and prepare engineering drawings to fabricate flight and structural test articles.
This position may be performed at a level 2 or level 3 engineer depending on the qualifications, skills, and experience of the candidate.
Mechanical Engineer 2 - Bachelor's Degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area (Degrees in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering highly preferred) and 2+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 0+ years of experience. Experience in both Composite and Metallic Mechanical Design.
Mechanical Engineer 3 - Bachelor's Degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area (Degrees in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering highly preferred) and 5+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 3+ years of experience. Experience in both Composite and Metallic Mechanical Design.
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain government clearance.
Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with design, manufacturing, and testing of structures.
Experience with the fundamentals of spacecraft (or similar hardware) to include layout, design, and build.
Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, preferably CREO.
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards and preparation of manufacturing documentation.
Experience with 3D Printing, Design for Manufacturing, and hands-on hardware fabrication.
Proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
