2017 New Grad - Database Engineer

Northrop Grumman Technology Services sector is seeking an entry level Database Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in McLean, VA. The qualified candidate will join our team of experienced, motivated individuals in defining the future of Law Enforcement Data sharing. The successful applicant will support LInX’s Engineering Database team and become a part of designing, developing, building, analyzing, evaluating, and installing database management systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, build, analyze, evaluate, and install database management systems to include database modeling design relational database architecture, metadata and repository creation and configuration management.
  • Using data mapping, data mining, and data transformational analysis tools to design and develop database.
  • Prepare system requirements, source analysis and process analyses, and design throughout the database implementation.
  • Determine data storage and optimum storage requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Systems Engineering, or Information Systems or related technical area. An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems or related technical area with 2 years of work experience in Oracle databases can be substituted in lieu of Bachelor’s degree. MUST BE A RECENT GRADUATE AND AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY.
  • Experience in Oracle database development with ETL and data migration to develop data conversion scripts
  • Knowledge of SQL/PLSQL and database concepts
  • Knowledge of all phases of software development lifecycle and processes
  • Understanding of software unit testing
  • Experience in creating and maintaining engineering documentation
  • As part of the database team, develop, integrate, and migrate to a new database to include schemas, and stored procedures
  • Good communication, writing, presentation, and organization skills
  • Must work well in a team environment and have good interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently resolve issues and deliver results
  • Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Knowledge in Java/JDK
  • Able to apply engineering techniques and analytical methods to make recommendations for improvements
  • Knowledge of all phases of software development lifecycle and processes
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging, small team environment as required
  • Strong software trouble-shooting skills
  • Position prefers a candidate with a current Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering
