Laser Clad Techinician

JOB SUMMARY

Operate the Nordson cladding cell for a variety of sizes of barrels. Work as a team with the other operators, process engineers and all support people to learn and develop a stable production ready process with significant gains in productivity improvements. Prepare fixturing and tooling for quick changeover and set up times for cladding. Open communication to improve processes, tooling, productivity, quality, and machine programs.

The Cladding cell operator will receive a barrel and then clad the barrel to drawing requirements. The Operator will be also responsible for grinding of that barrel, performing routine preventive maintenance on equipment and maintaining proper inventory on barrels and consumables. Flexibility to work different shifts to accommodate training and process improvements.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, and related technical data to determine cladding requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and cladding methods.
  • Select, align and secure the fixtures, and materials on machines.
  • Up load programs from network to the machine controller or enters commands to operate the machine manually.
  • Operate Cladding equipment to achieve desired thickness and consistency.
  • Set Up and Operate ID Grinder and Face Grinder to clean up cladded surfaces.
  • Inspect visually and dimensionally to process drawings. Use of micrometers, ID Bore gages and ring gages are required. Document non-conformances and rework/repair procedures
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement processes with other operators, programmers and engineers. Open communication to improve processes, tooling, productivity, quality, and machine programs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all machines in accordance with PM schedule.
  • Responsible for all housekeeping in the cladding area.
  • Responsible for performing monthly inventory on consumables.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Education:

  • AAS degree in Machine Technology or three years of relevant technical experience, i.e., operating manual or CNC lathes, mills, hones or EDM's preferred.
  • Basic math skills for use in the lay out and set up of work, product inspection and corrective procedures with competency in algebra and trigonometry.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience as a CNC Machinist preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to use and read measuring devices
  • Skilled in team processes, ability to work with others to identify and solve problems, resolve conflicts and optimize opportunities. A Team Player.
  • Ability to understand and follow corporate quality assurance work instructions.
  • Ability to read, interpret and organize daily activities from policies, procedures, work instructions and control documents.
  • Understands the importance of diversity, encourages collaboration and critical thinking to optimize the performance of the work cell.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Skilled in team processes, ability to work with others to identify and solve problems, resolve conflicts and optimize opportunities.

  • Ability to properly use micrometers and other measuring devices to determine tolerances
  • Ability to use required hand tools; determine their applications, uses, and safe handling requirements
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand up to 100% of workday, to push/pull tooling and equipment up to 25% of the workday, to bend up to 25% of the workday, to climb steps (stairs and/or platform) up to 20% of the workday
  • Ability to climb and reach up to 20% of the workday depending on the number of machinery set-ups and/or adjustments needed.
  • Ability to professionally interact with other team members, including designers and customers.
