Director, Technical Accounting & Policy

As a Director in NIKE's Technical Accounting and Policy team, you will be a key member of the team, primarily dedicated to advising the Revenue and Marketing accounting teams on complex accounting and policy matters. This will require understanding NIKE strategy and benchmarking with industry groups on interpretation of US GAAP around an evolving marketplace. Key accountabilities include:

• Advise on NIKE's accounting policies and procedures to confirm compliance with emerging US GAAP and ensure policies remain relevant with evolving business activities

• Provide technical accounting advice on complex business transactions throughout the Company

• Research, resolve and document technical accounting issues

• Develop and enact best practices to enhance the value of the Technical Accounting and Policy function within the Controlling organization

• Create strong business partnerships across functions both within and external to Controlling

• Establish a leadership presence within the Controlling organization, through formal and informal mentoring relationships

• Partner with the External Reporting team to ensure appropriate external disclosure considerations

• Monitor emerging accounting guidance and author comment letters for proposed changes in accounting guidance that may impact the Company

• Develop and deliver training and education materials around NIKE's accounting policies to various stakeholders throughout the global business

• Prepare materials for NIKE's disclosure and audit committees


Qualifications


  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance;
  • CPA required;
  • 10+ years' experience in public accounting; additional experience working in a large multinational, publicly-held company is highly preferred;
  • Experience working in a Big 4 accounting firm's Regional or National office is a plus;
  • Proven technical accounting skills, primarily in such areas as Revenue and Advertising & Marketing;
  • Proven people management experience;
  • Exposure to ERP accounting and finance systems such as SAP or Oracle preferred;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate status, issues, risks and opportunities with senior leadership team;
  • Proven ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience, including meeting facilitation and presentations;
  • Proven ability to develop high profile, influential and collaborative relationships across teams, functions and layers, preferably inclusive of navigating a large corporation
