Converse Design Director - Women's Footwear

MISSION

  • Create and execute the creative vision for the category through product in a way that supports a premium product consumer experience using the Converse Brand, Design Ethos and Guidelines.
  • Elevate the consumer experience through superior product craft and push the limits of Design.


FOCUS

  • Bring to life the seasonal creative narrative through design that is trend relevant to the Converse consumer.
  • Lead product aesthetic and storytelling through your creative influence to bring successful product lines to market.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Create the short and long-term design vision and strategies for a product business category with a focus on product craft.
  • Manage and set team and individual goals that align with department and function goals.
  • Coach staff: creates opportunities for staff development, make hiring decisions, and drive performance management, recognition and rewards.
  • Develop your team structure that facilitates and maximizes individual and team performance.
  • Develop strong consumer-oriented points of view and lead the design team in executing the vision in seasonal product launches.
  • Oversee execution of all product details including: construction detail, color, form, style, detail, fit performance, graphic application, trim, etc.
  • Maintain healthy cross-functional relationships and build matrix relationships with business partners outside of immediate team.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and proactively enhance business acumen.


REQUIRED SKILL TO ADVANCE TO THIS LEVEL

  • Provide experience and training that maintain the highest level of competency among designers.
  • Influence project direction with Category/Product leadership team while mentoring others by sharing business and design expertise and best practices.
  • Set clear and actionable goals and own career planning for your team (plan 1-2 team offsites focused on business and team building).
  • Lead or participate with Design functional leadership around Seasonal Creative Direction.
  • Influence and direct team seasonal workload by assigning projects to design staff and outside contractors.
  • Ensure key product creation process dates/gates are met, design tools are effectively utilized, and cross-functional teamwork occurs as appropriate.
  • Communicate creative vision and brand direction to team and stakeholders (internal & external).
  • Manage the presentation of projects at all stages: Design reviews, business meetings, and product adoption processes.
  • Bring innovation into the category through strategy and execution with the advanced concept groups CODE team, Converse Innovation, etc.).
  • In collaboration with Design Studio Director (or alone), manage category design team, resources, processes, and customer/client relations to ensure project standards and timelines are met.

Qualifications

EDUCATION : Bachelor's Degree in a design related field - Industrial Design Degree is a plus (foreign equivalent accepted)

Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, InDesign and PowerPoint.

Model making and footwear relevant craft skills.

Footwear or adjacent manufacturing process knowledge and experience. Ideally, have spent time in sample rooms and factories.



ADVANCED SKILLS

Consumer Research: Client and Consumer Relations (understanding & collaboration in business context with global consumer insights group)

Strategic Thinking/Visioning: understands product relevance, positioning, timing and collections.

Presentation & Communication: Clear concise and thoughtful delivery (verbal, written, visual, listening)
