Network Engineer


This position will succeed by optimizing and securing the Network, maximizing up-time, ensuring good security hygiene, assisting in the design of architecture, and contributing positively to open communications and collaboration within the Infrastructure team, technology department and organization as a whole.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duties, meet the Subject Matter Expertise requirements, and be able to effectively manage, configure, and design the objects and items listed below.

Technical Requirements:

  • Proven success in hands on administration in an enterprise network environment

    • OSI Model, Networking Fundamentals, and Networking Concepts
  • Familiarity with the following:
    • Microsoft Active Directory (AD administration, group policy, etc.)

Technical skills, responsibilities and Subject Matter Expertise Requirements:
  • Switches, Routers, Firewalls
  • LAN Switching, Layer 2 constructs, Spanning Tree
  • Dynamic Routing – EIGRP, OSPF, BGP
  • VPN and related troubleshooting (DH Groups, Phase negotiation, etc)
  • Perimeter Security (Firewall, IPS, Threat Protection)
  • Network/Systems availability and performance monitoring (Situational Awareness)
  • Network equipment inventory (Work with AssetExplorer and other IT Accounting Platforms)
  • Network equipment software status, patching, and lifecycle management
  • Network configuration, best-practices on all server equipment (physical and virtual)
  • Wireless Networking, including 802.1x NAC on WiFi
  • Develop and manage maintenance plans and schedules for all systems in scope
  • Manage and maintain documentation of all systems and processes in scope
  • Assist in Managing and maintaining network monitoring solutions, notifications, and response triage
  • Plan, execute and maintain network hardening, including coordinating and analyzing Pen Tests and Vulnerability Scans

Project Management:
  • Provide design assistance for deployments and projects
  • Assemble legible and efficient documentation including project plans, deployment plans, and network diagrams (Visio proficiency required)
  • Assist with technical change management
    • Software/hardware changes and upgrades for networking systems
    • Network infrastructure running high availability services and the SLAs around those applications
    • Implementation and maintenance of virtual servers and their hosts as they relate to the Network
    • Implementation, maintenance and upgrades of VOIP systems as it relates to the Network

Support:
  • Provide incident response, troubleshooting, and triage of relevant Network Tickets and Problems
  • Support business applications from the perspective of the Network
  • Analyze system failures quickly to minimize outages and interruptions and provide root cause analysis
    • Efficient and logical troubleshooting skills are required
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Dynamic Routing, Firewalls, IPS, Wireless, and Switching/Routing

  • Willingness to provide after-hours and weekend support for hardware/software upgrades or to meet other operational needs that cannot be accomplished during regular work hours

  • Valid Driver’s License and US Passport
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a hierarchical team framework

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None to start with, but this position will be groomed for a Senior and eventual Director-level position, with direct reports.
