The Quality Assurance Center of Excellence:

  • Provides leadership, evangelization, best practices, research and advancement within the practice, to drive business or customer-valued results
  • Provides mentorship, guidance and support, shared learnings, to resources sourced by business area, as well as measurements and governance
  • Used to establish standardized approach and processes in Quality Management discipline

The Test Architect is responsible for advancing NY Life’s testing capabilities through the design, development and implementation of processes, standards, frameworks, techniques and tools that reliably scale across the organization, through effective collaboration with Quality Management process owners, vendor partners, test leads, testers, technology and business architects, engineers and strategists.

The CoE Test Architect will work with: Sr. Test Leads, Infrastructure & Engineering Services, Business Relationship Managers, Head of QA CoE, QM Process Owners, and Technology Shared Services such as Enterprise Data Management.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for designing and building QM processes, standards, and methodology in partnership with QM sub-functions and Lines of Businesses
  • Responsible for selecting appropriate tools in testing tool suite and ensuring compatibility of testing tools with tools across the SDLC
  • Responsible for rationalizing end-state testing tool set
  • Working with the QM Process Owners, responsible for identifying and implementing process, process improvements and governance
  • Integrates QM continuous improvement efforts with other improvement efforts across the organization
  • Implements testing techniques that effectively validate our go-forward technology stacks as early in the development cycle as possible
  • Designs and builds the business case for new shared services with an understanding of the needs of the IT functions
  • Demonstrates forward-thinking in test advancements and capabilities

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of quality assurance best practices, standards, processes, procedures, and testing techniques
  • Strong knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies and software development lifecycle including build and deployment best practices
  • Ability to collaborate with architects and technical resources at all levels of the organization to understand technology direction and solution design to effectively integrate testing process, techniques and frameworks with the objective of increasing quality while reducing manual test efforts
  • Ability to keep current on testing advancements within the software solutioning and infrastructure space, applying that knowledge to innovate and expand NYL’s test capabilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a large organization to influence process adoption and continuous improvement
  • Experience implementing service virtualization
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Influence indirect reports’ overall performance, fostering a high degree of engagement, providing feedback on skill level, strengths, areas to grow and learning opportunities
  • Prioritization of initiatives that provide optimal value to the business
  • Recommend and design new test services that would better serve the organization as a shared service
  • Understand on-going IT challenges in delivering optimized and high quality testing and providing/implementing recommendations for improving
  • Implementing innovative ways to provide self-service where feasible
  • Aligns closely with vendor management to drive metrics and measures to optimize usage of our vendor sourcing arrangements
  • Consistently reduce the time and effort associated with test case design and regression test execution
  • Understand the technology direction of the organization to effectively build innovative testing practices around it

Success Metrics Required

  • Ability to assess current situation (testing practices, resource skills, tools) identify gaps and establish target plan for addressing gaps in the first 100 days
  • Establish a strong relationship with the LOBs, shared services, vendor test resources and key disciplines’ resources to gain engagement, cooperation and buy in to facilitate the implementation of change
  • Feedback from LOB aligned test functions on ability to collaborate, solve challenges and problems
  • Ability to facilitate innovative solutions in cooperation with our sourcing partners increasing year over year performance as measured by the elimination of defect leakage to Production and increase productivity in test execution
