Performance Engineer

Performance Engineers at MuleSoft enable the Anypoint Platform to scale as we continue to transform how technologies and APIs connect with each other. We’re a fast growing team working in a fast growing company whose customer base is ever expanding and onboarding large customers. We influence the architecture of the Mulesoft’s product to be designed for performance, scalability and reliability. The Performance Team ensures that benchmarks are established, platform limits are established, internally and externally facing capacity and sizing guidelines are provided to consuming teams. You will lead some of the critical performance projects and solve the hardest performance problems that puzzle even the savviest engineers. You’ll be in charge of identifying bottlenecks, architectural problems and performance issues while working on the most cutting edge intelligence systems. You’ll partner with the field teams to give performance consultation and contribute insights and tips. You’ll also improve the automation framework for continuous performance benchmark and analysis and maintain a stream of innovation and use out-of-the-box thinking to bring stability to our platform.

Goals for your first three months:

30 days:

  • Onboard and learn MuleSoft Architecture
  • Meet with all the Stakeholder and understand who does what and where you need to put focus
  • Learn exiting performance frameworks and tools used 
  • Assess the performance coverage for the product that you would be working
  • Work with a team member on delivering performance coverage for a project

60 days:

  • Come up with innovative ideas and improvements to the existing performance strategy for the product area that you will be working
  • Start leading the team in the direction towards achieving the Performance goals 
  • Make recommendations, get consensus and implement strategies to reach goals
  • Understand cloud architecture and think of ways to bring reliability to the platform
  • Understand production issues and bring that to the program
  • Independently handle performance for a project

90 days:

  • Review and assess the success of the strategies defined earlier
  • Devise long term strategy for broader product areas
  • Start leading the team in reviewing performance methodologies and provide guidance
  • Engage in framework development, automation and tooling and contribute
  • Work with Engineering managers, fields teams on delivering performance requirements
  • Provide visibility to Leadership team on the programs and performance metrics
  • Show contribution towards platform stability

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to ask the right questions and learn quickly
  • Experience in Java technologies, the latest profiling tools and frameworks, and leading investigation with others to resolutions
  • Familiarity with multithreading and concurrency
  • Solid knowledge on performance, the core principles and methodologies, and how to tune up the JVM, GC and the kernel
  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in CS or related disciplines from top university
  • A track record of achievement, creativity and ambition
  • Understanding of latest performance developments in the industry
