The Head of Data Standardization is responsible for defining and driving implementation of data standards across the enterprise which help to improve data consistency and quality and reduce complexity in our data ecosystem. This includes the standardization of reference data (list of values and related hierarchies such as product types, business units, industry codes and the like) which are critical to key enterprise business processes, including regulatory reporting, risk management, financial crimes compliance, financial and management reporting. This role will be responsible for the definition and implementation of a strategy and operating model which establishes clear processes, roles, accountability and controls necessary to improve and sustain data standardization.
The Head of Data Standardization is responsible for partnering with a wide variety of stakeholders across MUFG entities, lines of business, operations (e.g., Risk Management, Compliance, Finance, Regulatory Reporting), and technology, both within the Americas and in collaboration with MUFG Head Office to deliver on the following areas and objectives:
o Drive the definition and evolution of our data standardization strategy, including current and target state, gap identification and the development of a strategic roadmap
o Drive the definition and implementation of an effective operating model which supports our data standardization strategy and objectives, with clearly defined processes, roles, accountability, controls, and engagement points across key stakeholder groups and roles
o Work with key stakeholders across the business to define an effective and scalable governance framework (policies, roles, procedures, controls and monitoring) which supports our standardization objectives and activities
o Drive continuous improvement to our data standardization governance framework through ongoing oversight and refinement
• Projects / Operations
o Drive and support the definition, prioritization, and execution of all initiatives required to deliver on the strategic roadmap
o Hire and manage a high-performance team that will drive and support ongoing advancements in the breadth, quality and adoption of standardized reference data
o Establish and report key metrics to management which evidence our overall progress and highlight risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information management or related field
- 10+ years' experience with data analysis, data management or development with strong experience in financial services, and in complex and global business and technology environments
- Experience in organizations with mature data governance capabilities, including standardized reference and master data management capabilities
- Direct experience managing the implementation of standardized reference data frameworks across large organizations is strongly preferred, including experience building and managing high performance team
- Strong ability to develop and maintain long-term positive working relationships with peers, subordinates, and senior management
- Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences; confident communicator and presenter
