Your Team responsibilities
The Reference Data Analyst is part of the Reference Data team, which is a vital corporate resource at the functional core of MSCI's service offerings. The team function supports a significant percentage of the firm's revenue by providing the daily production of timely, complete, relevant, and accurate reference data on over 10 million financial instruments as well as corporate actions data covering both exchange-traded and over-the-counter (where applicable) products globally.

Your key responsibilities
  • Be a member of a highly skilled and motivated team of analysts that solves complex problems regarding all aspects of Terms and Conditions (TnC) market data delivery including data sourcing, processing, loading, analysis, etc.
  • Research and acquire in depth knowledge of the market data content models of upstream suppliers to MSCI for all asset classes covered by the global security master (Corporate and Government bonds, equities, derivatives, syndicated loans, and securitized products). It will be the responsibility of the analyst to learn, in the vendor's native data schema, their content model and relate this to business content objectives and develop business logic required to integrate upstream data feeds to a normalized set of terms and conditions data models. The analyst will work closely with development teams in the implementation and maintenance of these business rules.
  • In collaboration with Product Management, Research and Development Groups, understand new reference data requirements that enable downstream applications to properly model new or existing financial instruments.
  • Investigate reference data quality issues and design anomaly detection techniques applied to Terms and Conditions and Reference Data. Assist, both as a team member and in some cases as sole analyst, the development of derived data sets that are largely dependent on terms & conditions market data. The analyst will work intensely with the Research group on vetting analytic models with an eye toward the proper application and usage of market data content.
  • Articulate project implementation details to business stakeholders via reports, documentation, and presentations.
  • Investigate and resolve reference data quality issues and content exceptions on behalf of both internal and external MSCI clients
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases, preferably Oracle.
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Data Science, Finance, Investment Management, Economics, Actuary or equivalent field.
  • 2+ years of experience working at a Capital Market firm.
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Familiarity with large vendor market data architectures and products such as Reuters, Bloomberg, S&P, ICE, Markit.
  • Prior experience working with Fixed Income instruments at a capital markets firm is highly desired.
  • Programming experience with any or all of Visual Basic, Perl, Python, and C/C++
  • Experience working with legal entity data and data models.
