Patent Prosecution Specialist

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading international law firms with over 4000 lawyers and staff in 31 offices is seeking a Patent Prosecution Specialist for the Intellectual Property Patent Support Unit. Reporting to the Manager of Patent Support Services, the Patent Prosecution Specialist will be responsible for supporting activities related to patent prosecution and the preparation and filing of documents related to international and foreign national patent applications. While currently remote, this position will ultimately reside in the San Francisco, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Orange County or Silicon Valley office. This position requires flexibility with overtime hours.

Responsibilities:


  • Prepares and files documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office such as, New Patent Applications, IDS, Preliminary Amendments, and formalities.

  • Prepares client reporting letters and correspondence regarding formalities, Official Actions, Notices of Allowance, and Letters Patent.

  • Files documents with the World Intellectual Property Office International Bureau and foreign national patent offices in accordance with set guidelines and procedures

  • Prepares and files documents related to international and foreign national patent applications

  • Analyze PTO-issued documents for accuracy (such as filing receipts, assignment documents, certificates of correction, etc.)

  • Prepare of patent prosecution documents, including transcribing instructions (written and/or verbal), producing patent applications, correspondence, reports, memoranda, proofreading and redlining, photocopying, assembling and distributing.

  • Maintain accurate information on patent file jackets

  • Create and update client status charts and reports

Other administrative responsibilities and additional projects as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 3 - 5 years of related experience or;

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)

  • Strong attention to detail, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure and the ability to participate in a team environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a knowledge of the following software:

Practice Group: CPI Patent, CPI Trademark

Document Management: MS-Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), WorkSite, Adobe Acrobat, Legal MacPac

Accounting Software: CarpeDiem

Communications: Outlook, Office Communicator
