Reviews tax documentation and validates via Internet State websites and applies researched guidelines to taxability of products.

Manages exemption update correspondence/process. Responds to customer inquiries in a timely manner

Reviews daily orders with tax and requests documentation as necessary

Distribute tax deduction notices/mail to other specialists

Analyze customer tax claims and obtain documentation from customers to correct any open balances from Accounts Receivable

Manages business license compliance and prepares minimal dollar amount sales tax returns

Responsibilities

Maintains data in various tax related systems by performing any of the following functions:

 

  • Contact customers to obtain necessary tax documents and explaining sales tax regulations
  • Validate tax identification numbers via state websites and entry into AS400 and/or SAP then prepping for electronic repository
  • Compare month to month reports to determine variances in sales tax collections and payments – prepare minimal dollar sales tax returns and remittances to State revenue agencies meeting critical deadlines
  • Apply research and regulations to tax deductions for issuing debit or credit transactions on Accounts Receivable
  • Match tax payment vouchers to Accounts Payable checks and mail to tax authorities with time sensitivity
  • Maintain changes to the sales tax guidelines and notify affected personnel
  • Responsible for Sales Tax Help Line inquiries
  • Assist with sales tax audit defense and back-up support to other team members as needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency - College level courses preferred
  • Computer Skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications. (MS Word, Excel, AS400, SAP)
  • Experience in tax return preparation field helpful
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and write simple correspondence
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization
  • Must work well with others and interact with various company personnel outside the tax department
  • Ability to define problems & collects data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of information furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Performs with limited latitude for independent action and judgment within the framework of the job. Work is verified by the department manager
  • Ability to analyze month-to-month data information for correct result
  • Efficient in Excel and Work and 10-key calculator AS400 and SAP
  • Performs other duties as required
