Senior Software Engineer, Web Platform Architecture

The Web Platform Architecture (WPA) team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer. The team's responsibilities range from creating frameworks or libraries for other teams to use to develop their applications plus providing the tooling and infrastructure to ship those applications. We also create internal tools to help the business of baseball move quickly and efficiently.

The Senior Software Engineer position is responsible for creating the software powering the baseball experience as part of MLB.com.  Launched in 2001 as the tech arm of Major League Baseball, MLB.com is renowned for creating experiences that baseball fans love - and we're just getting started!

We are looking for engineers that are passionate about building new technologies for the baseball industry.

Core Responsibilities

  • You will help other teams debug and troubleshoot any issues around the platform team’s responsibilities
  • You will help teams by building the libraries and tooling they need to build their web applications
  • You will be responsible for owning applications that use JavaScript (or TypeScript) end to end
  • You will drive the direction of the Web Platform Architecture team’s JavaScript (TypeScript) practices and standards and are comfortable doing so

Collaboration

  • Participate in an agile environment
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (requirements gathering, designing, building, testing and maintenance)
  • Comfortable presenting and sharing ideas across teams
  • Enjoy mentoring individuals to level up their skills
  • You love documentation and sharing knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in front-end technologies including ES6, TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS
  • Skilled in back-end technologies including Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript
  • Experience building and deploying full stack web applications

Preferred, But Not Required

  • Experience working with cloud-native tooling such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and Helm
  • Experience with public cloud providers such as Google Cloud, AWS, Azure
  • Experience contributing to open source projects
  • A baseball fan or sports enthusiast

Per the NYC pay transparency law, the hiring range for this position is $150,000 to $190,000.

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision. In addition to your salary, MLB believes in providing a competitive compensation and benefits package for its employees.
