Process Engineer / Process Chemist - Manager

Based in Chicago and reporting to the Director of Engineering and Technical Services, this production services role will own the process development and roll-out of new and existing products in our production network. Charged with owning the formulation once it’s left our Green Chefs hands, this contributor ensures that our customers experience the same, intended product every time, regardless of where it was made. An eye for detail, a passion for manufacturing and love of formulation/process all will set this individual up for success.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Lead the product scale up and commercialization process from lab to plant (in collaboration with the Green Chefs and packaging engineers) for new products and existing products transferring to new facilities.
- Develop commercialization risk assessments ahead of scale-up to help ensure the right level of resource and time allocation (depending on product complexity and supply chain stability)
- Work with R&D, Quality and Procurement on product manuals and test method validation for the plants to ensure a smooth and seamless production start up
- Qualify new production facilities and equipment. Collaborate within our manufacturing infrastructure to apply best practices in scale-up and commercialization, including equipment choices and specifications.
- Participate on project teams, influencing short and long term project plans. Identify new product, cost, supply assurance and quality improvement opportunities
- Collaborate with Engineering and other groups to build the capabilities of the South Side Soapbox and continuously strive to improve the operation, efficiency and capability of the site.
- 3 - 8 years of product formulation, plant scale liquid processing and scale up experience in cleaning, personal care or related field
- Familiarity with blending, filling and packaging operations across common industry equipment, specifications and suppliers
- Knowledge of OTC/personal care process / manufacturing guidelines and requirements OR deep knowledge in laundry, solids blending and other household cleaning products processing
- Proven experience and knowledge of scale up and manufacturing best practices
- Equally capable in the lab, plant, or within business teams and problem solving operational issue
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within tight timeframes and deadlines
- Strong interpersonal communication, organization and experience leading teams
- Strong ‘hands on’ approach
- Well developed, creative problem solving skills
- Proactive approach and work ethic appropriate for a fast-paced, team-oriented, growing company

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
