MedStar National Rehabilitation Network (MNRN) is seeking an experienced VP, Finance & CFO to become part of its senior management team in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1986, MNRN has grown from a single hospital into a network providing specialized inpatient and outpatient care throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. The Network provides nearly 600,000 outpatient visits annually in addition to the hospital's more than 2,200 inpatient admissions.

    The Vice President of Finance & CFO serves as the primary financial officer for the MedStar National Rehabilitation Network (MNRN). As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the VP & CFO will have responsibilities that include developing and maintaining a strategic financial plan, annual operating and capital budgets, financial analysis of new programs, review of all financial reporting and analyses reports, and decision support. The CFO is also responsible for directing the fiscal functions of MNRN in accordance with financial management techniques, practices, and policies appropriate within the healthcare industry in partnership with MedStar's Professional Support Services Center and MedStar Corporate Office. This individual also has overall administrative responsibility and accountability for the management and direction of the operational, personnel and financial activities of MNRN's Finance Division.

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in finance or accounting. MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years' progressive financial career track record in healthcare.
  • Experience as a CFO, Vice President or number "two" financial executive role is required.
  • Certified Public Accounting certification required.

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Serves as a key member of the Senior Management Team of MedStar Health and MNRN.
  2. Performs monthly financial review and analysis of operating results for MNRN. In conjunction with MedStar Professional Support Services Center (PSSC) and Corporate Office coordinates the preparation of monthly financial analyses reports and variance analyses.
  3. Provides leadership in the development and the continuous evaluation of short- and long-term strategic financial objectives for MNRN.
  4. Performs personnel management functions to include, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, coaching, counseling, evaluating and terminating employees. This would also include succession planning for key positions.
  5. Ensures credibility of the entity Finance department by providing timely and accurate analysis of financial data, reports, and trends on a routine basis and as requested by management and others.
  6. Provides timely, accurate, and cutting-edge management reporting to line operating executives in collaboration with PSSC and Corporate.
  7. Provides focused communications with the physicians, conveying the results of operations and the key drivers regarding those results, including staffing models of each location.
  8. In collaboration with VP, Medical Affairs/CMO will develop and provide routine dashboard reporting, monthly financial reviews, and lead quarterly compensation discussions with physicians to ensure productivity standards are being met.
  9. Helps coordinate revenue cycle initiatives in collaboration with PSSC.
  10. Ensures proper fiscal control over MNRN's interest in all joint venture operations and oversees the financial management of those where MNRN is the managing partner.
  11. Serves as the liaison with the MedStar parent corporation and other MedStar entities on financial related topics and issues.
  12. Consistently demonstrates support for compliance and professional ethics in the performance of job duties and responsibilities by: (a) developing and maintaining knowledge of, and performing job functions in compliance with, rules, regulations, policies, and statutes that affect his/her job; (b) maintaining knowledge of and performing job functions in compliance with MedStar Health and MNRN policies and procedures; and (c) reporting compliance concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
  13. Develops, implements, and periodically updates a strategic financial plan.
  14. Directs the preparation of financial projections for new projects, major capital expenditures or proposed changes in operations.
  15. Collaborates with financial executives at Corporate to prepare and update the long-range financial forecast and annual budget of the hospital and the outpatient networks.
  16. Directs the preparation of statistical and cost accounting data in collaboration with PSSC and Corporate and utilizes data to evaluate financial performance and support management decisions.
  17. Interprets current financial trends and responds with appropriate action for both enterprises.
  18. Develops, in conjunctoin with PSSC, and manages MNRN key financial performance indicators and works with entity management in improving financial results using such indicators.
