Your Mission:

The Managing Principal, Strategic Consulting Services, is an experienced Clinical R&D executive with overall responsibility for one or more high value consulting practice areas. The Principal will lead the development, marketing, thought leadership and delivery of Strategic Consulting Services for their practice areas. The Principal drives maximum value for clients through expert guidance on achieving transformative process, organization, and business change leveraging Medidata technology.  As a strategic internal and external leader, the Principal influences industry direction, client thinking, and Medidata strategy through their deep experience, innovative thinking, strong managerial skills, and bold leadership.

The Managing Principal's primary responsibility is to lead one or more high value consulting practice areas to drive maximum value for clients through expert guidance on achieving transformative process, organization, and business change. The Principal does this by developing and driving strategic consulting responses to critical industry, regulatory, and technology challenges and opportunities and by maximizing the value of Medidata's platform with wrap-around solutions.This will involve:

  • Design, manage and deliver transformative business process and product consulting services across practice areas, with special focus within area(s) of expertise

  • Inspire and guide clients to a better and more value-based approach to working

  • Nurture assigned client accounts and develop stronger relationships to increase Medidata consulting and product opportunity

  • Work with Medidata Senior Leadership to develop Go-to-Market strategies

  • Nurture assigned client accounts and develop stronger relationships to increase Medidata consulting and product opportunity

  • Lead or support the sales cycle for all engagements in your practice area and related products

  • Develop marketing materials, sales collateral, pricing strategies and training plans

  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through engaged delivery

  • Develop and nurture a thought-leadership position in industry for your chosen practice area; develop strategic viewpoints on key industry topics and drive those views with clients and within Medidata

  • Develop broad knowledge about Medidata's platform and across clinical development disciplines, and ability to see and guide clients on value across the platform and across disciplines

  • Lead sustained improvement and growth across the Strategic Consulting Services team

  • Drive SCS in achieving company business fundamentals

  • Shape solutions and drive transformative change across clinical development

  • Independently manage account relationships to create repeat business and references

  • Manage resource planning and allocation based upon project demand

  • Manage consulting staff for success, including attracting and hiring the best talent; training and developing staff for best success; motivating, appraising, and rewarding to achieve excellence

  • Provide inspiration, mentorship and career development for direct reports to foster engagement, retention, and long-term success


 

Your Competencies:

  • Deep experience in clinical development, especially demonstrating expert knowledge of strategy and operations within the Clinical R&D space

  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills, complemented by technical, organizational, and managerial aptitude

  • Expertise in one or more clinical development functions/disciplines, and knowledgeable across clinical development practice areas/technologies as a whole

  • Demonstrated ability to drive, delegate, and deliver multiple, complex projects and project teams to success at executive levels

  • Strong, clear communicator with executive presence; has excellent command of public speaking and presentation skills

  • Exhibits sound, data-driven decision making on multiple, interrelated complex problems

  • Well networked with industry executives in clinical development; recognized by the industry as a clinical development expert

  • Able to form "trusted mentor" relationships with clients and influence at all levels of client organizations including C-Suite personnel

  • (Internal candidates) Well networked with senior internal leaders across functions and recognized within Medidata as a key partner in defining and delivering go-to-market strategies

  • Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments including resource management

  • Must be able to lead stakeholder interactions with confidence, and bring groups of diverse personalities and executive seniority to consensus

  • Demonstrated ability to work with sales cycle and generate business opportunities

  • Strong business acumen

  • Ability to envision and generate new consulting service value opportunities and see these through to successful conclusion

  • Proven leadership and managerial expertise with multidisciplinary and multi-level teams

  • Able to travel as necessary, including globally (+30% travel)


 

Your Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • 10+ years related consulting or industry experience showing progression/promotion

  • 10+ years in Clinical R&D and or Life Sciences

  • 5+ years in their practice area delivering real-world solutions

  • 5+ years managerial experience

  • Industry-recognized leadership in their specific practice area

  • Client side experience in the specific area
