 Software Engineering at Medidata:

Our Software Engineering function is run out of London, New York, San Francisco & Tokyo.  Working in a fully Agile environment, it is a high performing team that builds industry leading platforms and systems on today’s leading technologies, frameworks and platforms.

As a Lead Application Engineer, you will work on Medidata’s next generation of SaaS based clinical trial management applications, deployed on AWS and you will play a lead role in developing our new Microservices architecture.

Depending on the team and project, you will be exposed to technologies such as Scala, Java 8, Javascript, React-js, Node, JQuery, Redux, Akka, and Play Framework.  Our philosophy here is that if you demonstrate the right team focus and pro-active attitude, on the back of your proven experience in software engineering, we will train and invest in you to further develop this expertise to SME status and beyond.

 Core responsibilities

As a Lead Engineer, Technical Expert & Agile Team Member

  • Drive the technical conversation & direction in the development of Software Applications
  • Propose and prototype solutions to complex business problems and translate them to technology
  • Define and advocate good engineering practices for the team
  • Work closely with the Engineering management and Architecture groups in leading product delivery.
  • Be able to propose solutions based on the well known design patterns.
  • Collaborate in troubleshooting the production issues and provide possible workarounds and solutions in a timely manner.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues at Senior & App Engineer level; engage in code review to improve code quality and promote TDD/BDD approach.
  • Work positively and productively with other developers, Test Engineers and Business Analysts
  • Be a strong & positive voice in the Scrum meetings; contribute in Scrum Artefacts

 What we are looking for in you

Technical Experience

Experience of having delivered full stack solutions across multiple technologies.

Experience with Java technologies in an enterprise setting – preferably Java 8

Proven technical leader within an Agile development environment

Extensive experience in using Databases (mySQL, or other relational databases).

Strong experience and advocate with TDD and BDD

Clear evidence of contribution to architectural design.

Softer skills

Thrives in a team environment and has strong people communication skills.

Be a problem solver - find creative solutions for tough problems

Prepared to challenge the status-quo - propose multiple solutions with pros and cons


Bachelor’s or Master’s degree - or equivalent work experience
